The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice (F-35) training instructor (Crew Chief). The organizational goals or objectives of this position are: To provide training for Airman in basic skills and the associated knowledge of the F-35 Tactical Aircraft Maintenance (Crew Chief) career field.

In order to qualify, you must meet the SPECIALIZED experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

or

Experience

General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that provided evidence of the ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor; in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
  • Supervising or administering a training program.
  • Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
  • Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.

For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.


In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of instruction. Knowledge of training aids and devices used in training programs. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses. Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. Knowledge of computer applications.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B or J.D. [remove LL.B or J.D., if unrelated] with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official transcripts.

OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Less than the full amount of specialized experience described in above; however, I have completed some education as described. Therefore, I have a combination of experience as described and education as described above. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official college transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Assigned course is accredited by the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF)
2. Position may require travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY.
3. May be required to work on special projects as directed by the supervisor.
4. This position has been identified as Technical Training Essential.
5. IAW Section 315 of 10 USC, all instructors/teachers must hold at least an associate's degree to meet accreditationcriteria.
6. A pre-employment physical is required for this position.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
