The primary purpose of this position is: To perform the full range of journey level plumbing duties such as installing, repairing, and modifying water supply, sewage disposal, and similar utility systems and equipment to include water mains, backflow preventers, fire hydrants, sewage pumps, and lawn irrigation systems.

Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4200 Plumbing And Pipefitting Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Ideal Candidate: Is someone with integrity who takes pride in their work but also is a TEAM player! Is Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Adherence to all facility work rules and housekeeping/cleanliness. Knowledge of various fire extinguishing systems, equipment, and installation procedures to replace and test for proper operation. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, operation, and repair, to include routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems; and of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair various systems and equipment. Knowledge of accepted trade practices, national, and local fire extinguishing systems and plumbing codes. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, practices and programs. Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing suppression systems to include supply and distribution equipment without more than normal supervision. Skill in using and maintaining tools of the trade such as wrenches, pipe cutters, pipe groover, threader, soldering torches, augers, arc welders, and drill presses, etc. Skill in troubleshooting difficult or hard-to-detect leaks and operating problems. Ability to plan and lay out work, determines methods of approach by utilizing technical manuals, shop directives, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, work requests, tools, equipment and parts.

  2. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic
  3. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  4. Measurement and Layout
  5. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  6. Trouble shooting

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
