Description:

The Fitness/Aquatics Recreation Assistant will assist with all aspects of the fitness program. Incumbent is able to answer basic fitness related questions and show members how to properly use all equipment, perform basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain facility and equipment, and perform administrative duties as needed.

Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Must have knowledge gained through relevant work experience which enables the incumbent to competently and independently carry out day to day operations as described above.
  • One to two years experience in a related recreational activity. (Qualifications applicable to the specialization may be established locally).
  • Must be a mature individual with an adequate level of physical fitness, sound leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills and interview skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy as well as finesse are required when interacting with staff members and customers.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
