Our client is a leading provider of specialized subcontracting solutions with an established reputation for delivering high-quality service within the construction industry. With a robust network of skilled professionals and a strong commitment to excellence, they efficiently manage and execute a diverse range of projects spanning commercial, residential, and industrial spaces. Currently, they are looking to add a Controller to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate:


$120k – $135k + Bonus incentives

Position Overview:

As the Controller for the construction company, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and direction of the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee financial operations, manage construction project finances, and cultivate strategic banking relationships. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in construction finance, and a deep understanding of project-based accounting, and WIP accounting.

Responsibilities of the Controller:

  • Leading ongoing financial strategic planning efforts.
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive 3 – 5-year financial plan aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
  • Conducting contract reviews and negotiations, particularly for bank loans and new company acquisitions.
  • Ensuring favorable terms and conditions that align with the company’s financial goals.
  • Driving the financial aspects of company acquisitions, including due diligence and integration strategies.
  • Working closely with company owners to develop and implement high-level financial strategies, including capital levels and financial structures.
  • Investigating and evaluating options for health insurance, including self-funded plans and renewals.
  • Making informed recommendations to optimize health insurance offerings.
  • Leading high-level budgeting efforts, determining Sales and Gross Margins across multiple companies.
  • Ensuring alignment with overall financial strategy and business objectives.
  • Designing and managing bonus compensation plans to drive performance.
  • Determining allocations for indirect costs, including rent, management fees, and personnel sharing.

Qualifications for the Controller:

  • Extensive experience in financial leadership roles within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting principles and WIP accounting.
  • Familiarity with construction management software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA required.
